Nerf Battles - Session 1
Thanks to Jamie Heston, the creatrix of East Bay Nerf Battles, our GameRunners Edward and Oliver have been instructed in the fine art of Nerf battle gamerunning!  We wish Jamie were joining us at GameSchoolCon, but we're going to soldier on without her and blast each other in her honor :)

We will play multiple Nerf battles, with breaks in between for collecting darts, resting and reloading.  Game modes include: freeze tag, civil war, defend the core, seize the balls, capture the point, king of the hill and more. Players can play every game in the session, or sit out if they need a break.  All ages, kids and adults welcome, from 6 to 99!

BRING your own Nerf blaster(s), shields, melee weapons (foam swords, rolled up socks), or use one of ours.  We will provide everything else including elite/koosh style darts.  If your blaster uses mega darts, discs or balls, you must bring your own darts/discs/balls.  Put your initials or mark on them so you don't lose them.  All players are expected to help sweep (pick up) darts after each game mode.

Rules will be explained at the session. (can also be viewed ahead of time at www.eastbayareanerf.com)  Children participating must be able to follow directions, be good sports and be team players (no bad language allowed).  All players must have glasses, sunglasses or some sort of eye protection for each round.

Come and join in the FUN!

This session is sure to be popular and we want everyone to have a chance to play, so please arrive 10 minutes early.

How gaming has helped my family bridge cultural gaps and gain a greater understanding of the world around us
The way we play, both as children and adults, says a lot about us and the culture that surrounds our families.
Whether competitive, cooperative, combative or some combination of the three, gaming allows us all to take on different roles and gain a different perspective.
This talk is about sharing games from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds, old and new!
I'll bring some of my family's favorites and talk about the history behind them.
Please feel free to bring/talk about some of your favorites too.

RPG: Kids on Bikes
Kids On Bikes is a supernatural/fantasy roleplaying game set in a small town in a time before cell phones and the internet.  Armed with little more than a flashlight, their wits, and of course, their trusty bike, the heroes will set out to investigate mysterious goings-on and no doubt stumble into trouble.

The game uses its own unique system which not only lets players create their own characters, but also share in taking charge of any "powered" characters they might meet.  If you liked "Stranger Things," then you'll love Kids On Bikes.

Ages:  Recommended for ages 13 and up.
Character creation:  Full, at beginning of session
Seats:  5 players max, spectators welcome
Difficulty Level:  Easy - suitable for new players

RPG spots are limited - sign up sheets will be posted on the door of the RPG room.  Spectators welcome in all RPGs.  Players are encouraged to make room for folks who have not played in the RPG room yet if spots are scarce!

A Die is Cast: Using Gaming to Promote Literacy and Numeracy with Students of All Ages
We learn by absorbing information in a way that makes sense to us, and play makes sense to kids.  We tend to devalue board games as educational because they are seen as entertainment, but why can’t games have a big role in education?  In this discussion we’ll talk about ways we can boost literacy, language arts, and numeracy in students of all ages by using games.

RPG: Dream Askew
Dream Askew is a queer focused, post apocalyptic rpg that has no GM.  For 3-5 players.  We'll be going through full character creation for this system which looks like half baked for most systems.  I ask that we create an intentional space for queer/lbgtq+ gamers aged 16 and above as the game is intended as a queer focused experience that deals with mature themes.
